As if the upcoming Veronica Mars isn’t good enough, now comes news that the show will live on, sort of.
On Wednesday the president of the CW, Mark Pedowitz, announced that Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is working on a new spin-off web series to air on CW Seed. If you aren’t familiar with CW Seed, it’s a platform for programming that features short digital series.
And what is this new Veronica Mars web series about? Well, Thomas tweeted that the show will center on Ryan Hansen (who plays Dick Casablancas) trying to make a Dick-centric spin-off series. So it’s a weird, meta show about trying to make a show.
There’s no other word on when it might air, but the web series will most likely run for eight 10-minutes episodes. That’s almost like a second Veronica Mars movie.
The Veronica Mars film opens in theaters March 14. Since the end of the show, Hansen has worked steadily in TV, starring in Party Down and NBC’s Friends with Benefits and landing a recurring role on 2 Broke Girls. He’s also a regular on the TV adaptation of the film Bad Teacher on CBS, though it hasn’t received a premiere date. And he’s no stranger to web series, starring in Rockville, CA in 2009 and the Bachelor parody Burning Love.
If the show is only half as good as this YouTube video Hansen made when the Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign reached its goal, I’ll be happy.
Are you excited for this new web series about Hansen trying to make a Dick Casablancas TV show? More importantly, does it make you actually WANT a Dick Casablancas TV show?
