Michelle Clunie is an American ballet dancer and actress born on November 7, 1969 in Portland, Oregon. She says she grew up with beatnik and Bohemian parents who taught her to oppose discrimination and intolerance. She accepted a scholarship at The Academy of Professional Ballet and focused on training and performing onstage, before turning her attention to acting.

She has worked on television series such as Silk Stalkings, Mad TV, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, ER, Boy Meets World, Pensacola: Wings of Gold, Pacific Blue, JAG, Judging Amy, and House. She’s also appeared onstage in tours of The Vagina Monologues. Despite her well-known role as lesbian lawyer Melanie Marcus in the drama series Queer As Folk, she has stated that she is straight.

The partner of Lindsay Peterson and the natural mother of Jenny Rebecca, she works as an attorney for a law firm. She was also raised devoutly Jewish and often has tense moments with Brian, whom she disliked being chosen as Lindsay’s sperm donor for their son Gus. Melanie has a close friendship with their accountant Ted Schmidt, though it’s later discovered that Ted has stolen money from Gus’ college fund.
