Biography
Actor Raymond Ablack was born on November 12, 1989 in Toronto. He studied psychology and worked as an intern for Epitome Pictures. However, he started acting at an early age. At 11 years old, he was already seen on several television commercials.
Before rising to fame, Raymond Ablack was seen in a theatre production of The Lion King at the Princess of Wales Theatre in his hometown. He has also been a competitive hockey player and has a first degree black belt in Goju Ryu Karate-do, Kobudo and Jiu-Jitsu. On the small screen, he is best known as Sav Bhandari on Degrassi: The Next Generation. He also appeared on the show Life with Derek in 2009, as well as the TV movie Taking a Chance on Love.
A singer and songwriter, Ablack performed for the Degrassi soundtrack and is a member of the bands SoundSpeed and BlueberriesForSally. He also sang the national anthem at a Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Game.
Raymond Ablack has also worked with a variety of charities. In 2007, he traveled to Africa with his Degrassi castmates to build a school with the organization Free the Children. They went to Ecuador in 2008, and returned to Africa in 2010.
