With another Academy Awards in the books, it’s time to look back on the show for what we might remember 10 years from now. Like Mark Andrews, who accepted the Oscar for animated feature for Brave showing up in a kilt. And what about a lot of older men who showed off their long free-flowing hair? Here are 10 other noteworthy moments.

Jennifer Lawrence Trips Up the Stairs
If you didn’t love her before, you did after watching her trip as she walked up the stairs in a huge ball gown to accept the Oscar for Best Actress. She handled it gracefully, laughed and even poked fun at herself that people were giving her a standing ovation because they felt bad. “That was embarrassing,” she continued. Oh, did you catch Hugh Jackman rushing to her side for assistance? What a gentleman!
Daniel Day-Lewis Jokes During Speech
While it wasn’t a surprise that he won the the Oscar for Best Actor for his spot-on portrayal of the 16th president in Lincoln, no one could’ve predicted his speech’s comedic turn. He quipped that he was actually supposed to play the role of Margaret Thatcher, who of course was played by Meryl Streep, the presenter of the award, and that she was supposed to play Lincoln. He went even further to say — all with a pretty believable face, no less — that he had to convince director Steven Spielberg not to make the movie into a musical. Another great part of the speech was Streep’s lipstick mark that was left on his cheek. By the way, Day-Lewis is the first actor to win three golden statues in the leading actor category, having previously won for My Left Food and There Will Be Blood.
Ben Affleck Accepts Best Picture
Ben Affleck got his moment on stage with his Oscar as he gave an emotional and flustered speech after Argo won Best Picture. He reflected on his career, how he was up on stage 15 years ago for Good Will Hunting, but back then, he was just a kid. He had never thought he’d be back there. He also touched on the rough patches of his career and thanked those who stuck by him. While he wasn’t even nominated for Best Director, it’s his directing — and everything else he did — that won best picture.
Seth MacFarlane Delivers Funny Opener
From a dance with Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum and a makeout session with Sally Field, the first-time host of the Oscars delivered a pretty strong opener. As for the rest of the night, not so much, but let’s not focus on that. He opened the show by getting Tommy Lee Jones to laugh! I mean, if that’s not success, I don’t know what is. And the Flight spoof with sock puppets had me in tears. And we also have to mention the “We Saw Your Boobs” number.
Christoph Waltz’s Supporting Actor Win
As fantastic as he was in Django Unchained, most critics/experts/people in Oscar pools — who, me? — did not have him coming out victorious in this category. Most of the momentum swung toward Tommy Lee Jones in Lincoln, and a little less for Robert DeNiro in Silver Linings Playbook. Then Waltz gave his speech and no one remembered that they thought someone else was going to win.
Musical Numbers Bring Out the Stars
This year’s Academy Awards gave a nod to musicals in the form of three performances. Catherine Zeta-Jones took the stage to deliver an impressive “All That Jazz” from Chicago, which came out 15 years ago. Then Jennifer Hudson took the stage alone to belt out a flawless “And I Am Telling You” from Dreamgirls, for which she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Finally, the Les Miserables cast came together to perform for the first time on stage together.
Michelle Obama Makes Surprise Appearance
What’s the first lady have to do with the Oscars? Not sure, but she still made a surprise appearance in the end. Jack Nicholson was introduced as the presenter for Best Picture, the final award of the night, but he stepped aside to make way for Michelle Obama, who was live via satellite.
Kristen Stewart Fights Through Injury
Was this an Oscar first? Kristen Stewart limped to the stage to present with Daniel Radcliffe following an injury. Kudos to her for still going through it, as other actresses may have pulled themselves out for fear of not looking perfect during their moment on the camera. But then again, if she had pulled out, Seth MacFarlane would not have been able to deliver a weak joke about Harry Potter and Twilight or something. Plus, she was mentioned in the “We Saw Your Boobs” number.
Quentin Tarantino’s Screenplay Wins
First, he let the entire world know his neighbor is Charlize Theron, who happened to present him with the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. He commented on how much he loved the competition, that the writing in both original and adapted screenplays were fantastic. He ended his speech with “Peace out.” Appropriate, and how do you not love that?
Jaws Theme Cuts Speeches Off
If there’s any way to get winners to wrap it up, it might be the theme song to a movie about sharks. Like, hurry it up or a shark will eat you. Still, some winners spoke over the music, but we’re glad that the big categories got as much time as they wanted.
