The Television Critics Association has announced its nominees for 2014, and the list includes many of the expected critical darlings. HBO’s True Detective leads with four nominations while CBS’ The Good Wife and the final season of AMC’s Breaking Bad scored three .
The awards, which feature unique categories like Program of the Year and Outstanding New Program, highlight the best of the 2013-2014 TV season. Aside from the three top nominees, Program of the Year also features Game of Thrones and Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black.
For Drama, The Americans, House of Cards and returning winner Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black are also nominated. Interestingly, the TCA nominated HBO’s True Detective in the Miniseries or TV Movie category, against shows like Fargo and American Horror Story: Coven, even though it will compete as a Drama at the Emmys.
On the Comedy side, Louie, The Big Bang Theory, Veep and awards show underdog The Mindy Project all picked up two nominations, as did Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation.
The nominees for Outstanding New Program offer a wide variety of shows, with miniseries Fargo and True Detective, Netflix’s dramedy Orange Is the New Black and a pair of FOX shows, the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the drama Sleepy Hollow.
Other categories include Outstanding Reality Program (where Shark Tank and The Voice compete against RuPaul’s Drag Race) and Outstanding Youth Program (where ABC Family’s Switched at Birth and The Fosters compete against Sesame Street). Outstanding Informational Program features shows like 60 Minutes, The Daily Show and Cosmos.
The TCA Awards also honor the history of TV with nominees for Career Achievement and the Heritage Award, which this year includes South Park and Lost.
