Back when A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila first started, there was quite a bit of hand-wringing from cultural critics about what the show meant for the already – in their eyes – morally-barren and intellectually-bleak landscape of American TV. As one critic put it, “The latest sign of the apocalypse is the debut of A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila…”
The viewers carefully considered the thoughtful arguments, and responded, “Whatever, haters!” and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila became a surprise success. The series averaged 6.2 million and became MTV’s most-watched series. The finale even beat out broadcast in the 12- to 34-years-old demographic, and was MTV’s second-highest rated show this year, only edged out by the Video Music Awards.
And all this means that Domenico Nessi’s spin-off show is a go!
So the recent reports of Domenico Nessi getting his own show were not fabrications, as I sort of idly wondered when initially reporting on this. (Maybe those cultural critics can weigh in and let us know which horseman of the apocalypse this is; I can never remember if Flavor of Love and I Love New York count as one or two.)
Tony DiSanto, Executive Vice President of Series Development and Programming at MTV confirmed that Domenico’s show, called That’s Amore!, saying, “From food to fashion and fast cars, Italy gives America some of our finest imports, and Domenico is the very latest. Tila Tequila may have given her heart to someone else, but this Italian bachelor isn’t ready to give up on love, American style. He’s still looking for the perfect match and we are going to help him find her! We knew we found our next star when Domenico strutted out in his tiny green and red spandex swimsuit. As we all know … nothing says ‘hot bachelor’ like an Italian Flag Speedo.”
(I wonder if Tony DiSanto ever dreamed that being an Executive Vice President would ever involve uttering the sentence “Nothing says ‘hot bachelor’ like an Italian Flag Speedo.”)
Domenico’s show will be six one-hour episodes, as he narrows his quest for love down from 15 women to just that one special lady. Casting is happening right now and the show will air in the first quarter of 2008.
Tila says she found love with Bobby on A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, so she apparently not going to be back searching for any more any time soon. However, we have heard there will be a second season, so stayed tuned to find out which bisexual D-lister signs up for more pudding wrestling and bull-penis chowing.
