It’s a very good day for (most of) ABC Family’s shows. The network has officially extended the order of the freshman ballet dramedy Bunheads while ordering extras seasons for Switched at Birth, Melissa and Joey and Baby Daddy. The bad news, however, is reserved for freshman drama Jane by Design, which has been canceled.
The extension for Bunheads, starring Sutton Foster as a former Vegas showgirl who moves to a small town with a ballet school, means that the summer finale on Monday, August 20 won’t be the end of the series.
Switched at Birth will start the third part of its first season on Monday, September 3, but the early renewal means it will continue into a second season.
Also getting a second season is the freshman comedy Baby Daddy starring Jean-Luc Bilodeau and Chelsea Kane. And the Joey Lawrence/Melissa Joan Hart comedy Melissa and Joey has been renewed for a third season. Both are currently airing Wednesday nights and will end their current seasons August 29.
Finally, Jane by Design, which recently finished its first season, is officially canceled.
