ABC Family may be changing its name in 2016, but that doesn’t mean The Fosters is leaving our TV screens anytime soon. The network has announced that the critically acclaimed drama has been renewed for season 4.
Based on previous seasons, it’s likely that season 4 will premiere in June 2016 and air the first half of the season through August.

“We have so many more stories to tell about The Fosters family — these incredible characters have come into our lives and touched so many — from Stef and Lena’s wedding to the adoptions of Callie and Jude,” Karey Burke, Executive Vice President of Programming and Development at ABC Family, said in a press release. “We look forward to more of the groundbreaking storytelling from this creative team.”
The Fosters follows the lives of Stef and Lena, and their adopted and biological children. The series, which stars Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Hayden Byerly, Noah Centineo, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell, Danny Nucci and Cierra Ramirez, is executive produced by Jennifer Lopez and has received such honors as the Television Academy Honors Award and the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series.
During the first half of season 3, which aired in summer 2015, The Fosters was the #1 scripted cable TV series for its timeslot, in both total viewers (with 2.1 million viewers) and in the 18-34 and 18-49 demographics.
ABC Family is changing its name to Freeform in January 2016, the same month that the second half of season 3 will premiere.
Are you excited that The Fosters has been renewed for season 4? What do you hope to see with all your favorite characters when the show comes back in January?
The Fosters returns Monday, January 25 at 8pm on ABC Family.
