Dedicated television fans are always taking clips from their favorite shows and turning them into amateur music videos. YouTube is littered with these creative projects, but it seems some shows work better than others when set to music. It makes perfect sense to place a whiny emo song over clips of the Grey’s Anatomy cast, just as ’80s hair metal makes an excellent companion to any number of Supernatural scenes. However, one show that wouldn’t seem a natural fit for a hit rock song is Lost. After all, the show itself rejected montages set to music when Hurley’s CD player died in season 1’s “…In Translation.”
Lost may not seem like MTV fodder, but that hasn’t stopped ABC from launching a promotional music video set to The Fray’s “You Found Me.” The three-minute clip contains some intriguing season 5 clips, as well as glimpses of a mysterious new logo that will keep Lost fans talking.
I’m not a big fan of the song in the video, but that doesn’t matter once the season 5 clips get rolling. There are a few intriguing glimpses at what’s coming up on the series, but perhaps more interesting are the flashes of the logo for a fictional company called Ajira Airways. This company has never been mentioned on Lost, but they do already have a website you can visit. The site allows you to enter your e-mail address to receive further Ajira updates, which is something every Lost fan will want to do. How will this mysterious new company tie in to the show’s mythology? We’ll have to wait and see.
You can check out The Fray’s music video below if you want to pick out the season 5 clips. There are shots of Sayid and Jack battling it out, Hurley brandishing a gun, Desmond and Penny in bed and a shirtless Sawyer on the beach. The video ends with the words “Destiny Calls,” which is a fitting way to describe the upcoming season.
Lost returns to ABC with a special two-hour premiere on Wednesday, January 21 at 9pm.
