Biography

British actor and comedian Ben Miller was born in 1966 in London. He is a graduate of Cambrige University, where he took up a PhD in quantum physics. While studying for his thesis, he met Alexander Armstrong, while working at the TBA Sketch Comedy Group in Notting Hill. This resulted to the two performing a stand-up show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1994, and again in 1996, where they were nominated for a Perrier Comedy Award. They eventually launched a comedy series, Armstrong and Miller, which ran from 1997 to 2001. It also inspired a similarly-named radio show in 1998, as well as another show, Children’s Hour, that same year.

Miller’s first television appearance, though, was in 1991, in a guest appearance for Murder Most Horrid. He also appeared in several other television programs, including Sardines, Hunting Venus, Cinderella, and The Worst Week of My Life. He was also a regular performer in panel show Have I Got News For You and talk show The Jack Doherty Show. In 1999, he appeared in his first film, Plunkett & Macleane. He also had roles in films such as The Parole Officer alongside Steve Coogan, Johnny English alongside Rowan Atkinson, and The Prince & Me alongside Julia Stiles.

Miller’s recent appearances include Thank God You’re Here, where he starred as himself; Moving Wallpaper, where he plays television producer Jonathan Pope; and Primeval, as James Peregrine Lester, a government official who leads a team of scientists, led by Nick Cutter, (Douglas Henshall) investigating time anomalies.

Miller has also directed and produced some productions. He directed the 2005 film Starry Night and the television pilot to the Steve Coogan comedy Saxondale. He also produced The Armstrong and Miller Show, which aired in 2007. He is also currently directing the film Hopeless Romantic, a romance comedy which he also co-wrote.
