Biography
Her birthplace may be publicly disputed—some stating she was born in Rhodesia, present-day Zimbabwe, and some stating she was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico—but Clare Carey’s acting has been known to many. Born on June 11, 1967, she began acting professionally right after graduating from high school. Her screen debut came in 1987, when she starred in the horror flick Zombie High. Her first regular television role came in 1989, when she starred in the sitcom Coach. She had a prominent role in the early seasons, as Kelly Fox, the daughter of lead character Hayden Fox (Craig T. Nelson), whose growth he has tried to deal with. She stayed in the series as a regular until 1993, but continued appearing occasionally until 1995.
Carey’s next regular television role wouldn’t come until 2001, when she starred in the short-lived comedy So Little Time. The series, which fared poorly in the ratings, saw her play Macy Carlson, the mother of rambunctious twins Riley (Mary-Kate Olsen) and Chloe (Ashley Olsen). In 2005, she scored another regular role, this time in another short-lived series, Point Pleasant. The mystery drama was pulled out after only eight episodes because of poor ratings. In 2006, she joined the cast of the science fiction series Jericho, playing Mary Carey, a tavern owner who perhaps holds the only remaining contact their stranded town has to the outside world. Her most recent television role is in the ensemble drama Crash, where she plays housewife Christine Emory—her perfect life is a fa?ade for a crumbling marriage and her midlife crisis.
Carey has also starred in numerous movies. Her notable works include Uninvited, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles, Submission, Smokin’ Aces, Blind Spot and La Cucina. She’s also played memorable guest roles in Weeds, Grey’s Anatomy, Without a Trace, Army Wives and Boston Legal.
