Biography
Born on August 7, 1975 in Stornoway, Scotland, Hans Matheson is an actor best known for his role as Archbishop Thomas Cranmer on the Showtime series The Tudors. The son of a atherapist and a painter, he made his onscreen debut in Mojo, Jez Butterworth’s critically acclaimed directorial debut. This was followed by plays and television series.After Mojo, Mattheson was in Stella Does Tricks playing a male prostitute hooked on drugs, and later in Bille August’s film adaptation of Les Miserables. His other screen credits include the independent British hit Tube Tales, Bodywork, Canoe, and a Danish film entitled I Am Dina. In 2006, he starred opposite Demi Moore in Half Light and later as the Earl of Essex in the BBC production of The Virgin Queen in 2005.In 2008, Matheson was cast as Archbishop Thomas Cranmer on the second season of the Showtime series The Tudors. He was also in the BBC adaptation of Tess of the d’Urbervilles in 2008 and later in Sherlock Holmes the following year.
