Biography
Miley Ray Cyrus is a singer-actress who catapulted to fame for her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana. Since landing her breakthrough role, she has won numerous awards from various award giving bodies, has launched her solo career as an artist, has ventured into film, music and consumer products within The Walt Disney Company, and has established herself as a teen icon.
The daughter of Tish Cyrus and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who also appears as her father on Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus was raised in Franklin, Tennessee and attended Heritage Elementary School. Though it wasn’t until 2005 that she moved to Hollywood, she already landed her first acting gig in 2001 as Kylie on the TV series Doc. This was followed by her portrayal of Young Ruthie in Tim Burton’s Big Fish two years later.
At age 12, Cyrus was cast on Hannah Montana, the highly rated Disney series about a girl who leads a double life as a teenage school girl and a famous pop star. She became a worldwide hit, especially with the release of the show’s soundtrack and the Best of Both Worlds Tour.
Striking while the iron is hot, Cyrus quickly tapped into the big screen with her 3D concert film Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, followed by the animated feature Bolt where she served as the voice of Penny, and Hannah Montana: The Movie. In 2010, she played the female lead Veronica “Ronnie” Miller in The Last Song and even made a cameo appearance in Sex and the City 2.
Meanwhile, Cyrus has had her fair share of public scrutiny for various controversies surrounding racy photos that were leaked onto the web, a topless photo shoot for Vanity Fair, provocative outfit outfits and inappropriate pole and lap dancing. And yet, in spite of all the media uproar, she still emerges as one of the sought-after actresses in Hollywood, with numerous hit records and awards under her belt.
