Biography
English-American film, television and stage actress Mischa Barton was born January 24, 1986 in London, but moved to New York while she was five years old. By the time she was nine, she had signed with Ford Models and was playing lead roles in New York Theatre. She graduated from the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan in 2004, and has also attended classes at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2006.
Mischa Barton began acting when she was eight, when she obtained a role in the off-Broadway production Slavs! The Tony Kushner-penned play allowed her to gain the experience she needed, and she later landed roles in other projects. She was seen as the lead character in James Lapine’s Twelve Dreams, which premiered at the Lincoln Center. Barton’s breakthrough in film came when she was cast on Lawn Dogs, which earned rave reviews, as well as international awards. Her first television appearance was in 1996, when she landed a short-term role on the soap opera All My Children. She was also seen in a modern remake of Bonnie and Clyde, and was a guest star on the series Once and Again.
In August 2003, Mischa Barton rose to fame when the FOX series, The O.C. premiered. She was cast in the role of Marissa Cooper, earning her a huge teenage following. She left the show in May 2006, during the series’ third season finale. She later became a guest host in the British comedy/variety show, The Friday Night Project. Some of her other film credits include roles in The Sixth Sense, Notting Hill, St. Trinians and in a nude scene in The Closing Ring. In 2008, she signed on to play roles in the international film produced by the Russian band t.A.T.u, titled You and I.
Barton also got a part in Assassination of a High School President, which premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and co-stars Bruce Willis. In 2009, she was cast as Sonja Stone, a model who is desperately trying to regain her spot at the top of the fashion world, in The CW’s new drama The Beautiful Life.
