Biography
Actor Peter Hermann was born on August 15, 1967 in New York City. Born to German parents, he spent his childhood in Germany until he turned ten years old, after which he moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, where he became active in drama productions during his high school years. He then moved on to Yale University, and eventually graduated in 1990; he then joined the service organization Teach for America for two years.
Hermann began his acting career in 1997, when he joined the cast of the daytime soap Guiding Light. He played the role of Dr. Michael Burke until the following year. He then took a recurring role in the short-lived television series Get Real. In 2001, he took a recurring role in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and has appeared in 22 episodes as of date. He also played recurring roles in short-lived programs such as Beautiful People and Angela’s Eyes.
Hermann’s first regular television role was in the television series Cashmere Mafia, which premiered in early 2008. He played the role of Davis Draper, a hedge fund manager, and the ex-husband of hotel mogul Juliet (Miranda Otto). Despite considerable success, the series was not renewed for a second season.
Hermann has also starred in several films, appearing in releases such as Swimfan, United 93, The Treatment and Duane Incarnate. He also appeared in several stage productions, notably starring in the Broadway premiere of Eric Bogosian’s play Talk Radio. He is currently married to Mariska Hargitay, his co-star on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit; the two tied the knot in 2004 and had a son two years later.
