The girls competing to become America’s Next Top Model surely think they’re headed for a glamorous life. After all, they’re promised a chance to become, well, a Top Model. But does winning the show really guarantee them a shot at this?
Let’s look at where a few of the previous winners of America’s Next Top Model have found themselves.
Adrianne Curry, the first winner of America’s Next Top Model, has modeled for a number of magazines, from People to Marie Claire to Playboy, and has appeared in television commercials and several series, including the game show Ballbreakers, the sitcom Half & Half, and Celebrity Paranormal Project. Of course, what most people remember is her time on VH1’s The Surreal Life in the fourth season, where she met Christopher “Peter Brady” Knight, whom she later married, as seen on the series My Fair Brady. She currently hosts an online radio show.
Cycle 2 winner Yoanna House was once on the cover of Psychology Today. Ooh, glamorous. The runner-up in the same season, Mercedes Scelba-Shorte, made it as far as the cover of Arthritis Today. No, really. Yoanna House did score a gig as host of The Look for Less on the Style Network, though.
CariDee English, winner of last year’s Cycle 7 of America’s Next Top Model has just been announced as spokesperson for the National Psoriasis Foundation. She appeared on an episode of One Tree Hill last year, and on the cover of Seventeen magazine this winter, but both were part of her America’s Next Top Model prize. We’ll have to wait and see whether any of it leads to bigger and better things.
So, have we learned anything from this look at a few of the former winners? Not really. America’s Next Top Model can lead to great opportunities, but is certainly no guarantee of being an actual Top Model.
