Following confirmation that Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford is set to step in Zac Efron‘s shoes for the Footloose remake, yet another mainstay on the CW hit has expressed intention to embark on a potential musical career, stressing that music is his “first passion.” On top of playing Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girl, Penn Badgley warns fans, however, that it may take a while before they see his debut album on record stores or iTunes.
“Years from now, maybe you’ll see something, but for the moment, it’s something that I don’t [want to do],” Badgley tells MTV News. “I mean music is my first passion, but because of that I don’t really want to just take a first step in the wrong direction. At the moment, I just want to be sensible about what I do. I just write and I play, and that’s all I need for myself right now.”
That being said, a Gossip Girl compilation album might be in the offing. After all, Leighton Meester, who plays queen bee Blair Waldorf, is set to release her debut album later this year on Universal, and her leaked single Birthday has generated positive reviews. Ed Westwick, meanwhile, belongs to a London-based punk band when he’s not hatching schemes as brooding Chuck Bass. Lastly, Taylor Momsen has recorded songs as early as 2002. Jenny Humphrey’s alter ego is also in a band which has recently signed a deal and on its way to release their debut album this year.
“I haven’t heard any of Taylor’s stuff, but apparently it’s pretty decent,” Badgley says of his onscreen sister’s musical efforts. “I wish them the best with it. I think it’s awesome that they’re doing that.” Shooting for Footloose, meanwhile, will start in 2010.
Gossip Girl recently closed its sophomore season.
