Arrow introduced many characters from the DC universe in the first season and has continued to do so in season 2. In the premiere, a certain blond fighter helped out Roy in an alley. This season in episodes 8 and 9, a new character will be introduced from the DC family, Barry Allen, who becomes Flash.
Last week, I visited the set of Arrow in Vancouver (courtesy of WBTV) and Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg spoke to reporters about the casting of Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/Flash, the idea behind introducing him on Arrow, and Barry’s relationship with Felicity.

Highlights from the interview:
- Barry is a different character from Oliver. He will be in episode 8 and 9 of Arrow.
- “Barry has a very easy relationship with Felicity.”
- He’s a forensic scientist, young, socially awkward like Felicity.
- As they were writing the “Flash” episodes, they started to write the role with Grant Gustin in mind.
- “Barry’s a fan boy.” He admires Arrow.
- Barry asks Felicity about the vigilante because she was saved by him.
- Justice League – You have Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. “You have all these Gods and then you’ve got Barry Allen who’s just a guy.”
- Barry as “just a guy” is what appealed the producers to the character. And, that’s why Barry’s a good fit for Arrow. They want to still keep the world grounded.
- “It’s possible to put on a mask and change the world.”
Arrow airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on the CW.
