Last night Battlestar Galactica went there. It played the much abused ‘Death of a Major Character’ card, and it played it with the gall of any Lost, Grey’s, or Heroes episode by disposing of one of its most beloved characters, Starbuck, with Cylon allusions thrown in to boot. The question is, did Battlestar Galactica play its biggest hand of the season? Could there be bigger twists to come before Battlestar Galactica closes up shop later this month? Read on to find out.

Death never gets boring. Even when your not killing off a ‘major’ character, it still works. After all, the fear of death is usually the big motivator in shows like Battlestar Galactica. Showing that lead characters are vulnerable just adds a touch of realism. Sure, we could argue that it is a ‘trend’, but who can argue with a little added realism? If the trend is towards making the danger seem more real, it’s a plot device worth using. .

With that behind us, though, what could Battlestar Galactica possibly pull out of its writing room that could possibly match it? On the speculation side of things, it could be the resurrection. Could we see Kara Thrace reborn in a Cylon resurrection tank? All of that talk of the space between life and death was decidedly Cylon like. But alas, there is no evidence at present that this will happen. .

What is known is two things: One, a major character that we all know will be revealed as a Cylon on the stand during Baltar’s trial. And, yes, you guessed it, Baltar will be found not guilty as a result. Does this reverse the legality of Baltar being stripped of the presidency? What other major surprises await us in the finale? One is described as being the start of a whole new story arc. You’ll just have to wait to see.
