“The Movie in the Making” offers a look at Bones, documentary-style, as the Jeffersonian and the FBI investigate a murder for which the prime suspects are the victim’s father and friend. Though Cam insists on keeping her personal life out of the documentary, a big moment in her relationship is captured on film.
Here are the best quotes from “The Movie in the Making.”
Bones Recap: Bones Takes a Walk Down Memory Lane, Documentary-Style>>>
“Sometimes our debates are so ‘healthy,’ I end up sleeping on the couch.”
Brennan: “Booth and I were not arguing at the scene of the crime. I mean, we were having a healthy debate between husband and wife.”
Booth: “Right. Sometimes our debates are so ‘healthy,’ I end up sleeping on the couch. It’s true.”
“He calls me ‘Bones.’ Even though I’m his wife and the mother of two of his children, he still refers to me by a nickname I despise.”
Brennan: “He calls me ‘Bones.’ Even though I’m his wife and the mother of two of his children, he still refers to me by a nickname I despise.”
Booth: “Well, you used to despise it, but now I think you like it.”
Brennan: “No, I don’t. Seeley.”
“Just made me look like a creep who had this ever-present stench of death in his nostrils.”
Hodgins: “Look, all dead bodies smell, okay? But dead bodies found in a landfill and covered in leachate, which is basically a viscous trash water, they tend to smell worse.”
Cam: “When I first started, I had to dab peppermint oil under my nose to mask the smell.”
Hodgins: “I actually tried growing a mustache, thinking that it would block the smell. It didn’t. Just made me look like a creep who had this ever-present stench of death in his nostrils.”
Cam: “Yeah, eventually you get used to it. The smell, I mean. Not Hodgins with a mustache.”
“I don’t have any food on me, okay? If I did, I’d have to stuff it in my mouth every ten minutes.”
Duffy: “The squints?”
Booth: “Squints. You know, a nerdy little person in the lab, who… all they do is squint at things. They squint.”
Aubrey: “Is that – Is he – Oh. Is he doing his squint impression? You should ask him to do me. He does a great impersonation of me.”
Booth: “Right. I don’t have any food on me, okay? If I did, I’d have to stuff it in my mouth every ten minutes. So I can’t do that impression.”
“The only time a gut should be capable of opening a murder investigation is when that gut contains poison.”
Brennan: “The only time a gut should be capable of opening a murder investigation is when that gut contains poison.”
Arastoo: “Or a stab wound.”
Brennan: “Or a stab wound, yes. A stab wound to the gut should also suffice to open a murder investigation.”
Arastoo: “Or a gunshot.”
Brennan: “That’s enough, Dr. Vaziri.”
– After Booth says his gut is telling him it’s murder
“Because a person’s whole life is written in their bones. Who they are, how they died, even sometimes who killed them.”
Kid: “How come you only use skeletons?”
Brennan: “Because a person’s whole life is written in their bones. Who they are, how they died, even sometimes who killed them.”
“Marriage between royalty in ancient Egypt was often incestuous.”
Hodgins: “Boom. And that, ladies and gentlemen, that is why they call me king of the lab.”
Cam: “No one calls him king of the lab. No one other than himself, at least.”
Arastoo: “He also calls himself the king of the break room. King of the parking lot. Oh, and once after making an anonymous donation, he was the king of modesty.”
Brennan: “I once heard Dr. Hodgins refer to himself as as the king of Egypt.”
Angela: “The Jeffersonian has this ancient Egyptian wing, inside of which there is this huge bed, which is so perfect for… Let’s just say if Hodgins is the king of Egypt, then I’m most definitely the queen.”
Brennan: “Marriage between royalty in ancient Egypt was often incestuous.”
“Look, I love my children and I’d bend the world to protect them. To think about harming one of them is inconceivable to me.”
Duffy: “Being a father yourself, how do you accuse a man of killing his own child?”
Booth: “Look, I love my children and I’d bend the world to protect them. To think about harming one of them is inconceivable to me. But, you see, there’s darkness in this world. And just because you or I might not be able to see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Now, I certainly hope this man didn’t kill his own child. But at the end of the day, my loyalty isn’t to him. It’s to the kid.”
“For what, therapy?”
Brennan: “You’ll be happy to know that Christine remained unfazed while witnessing the bones being defleshed.”
Booth: “She’s used to it, okay? At home, you have pictures of dead bodies just lying around all over the place.”
Brennan: “I’m just trying to prepare her.”
Booth: “For what, therapy?”

”Honestly, I thought Booth was kind of cute.”
Angela: “Well, this job was supposed to be temporary. The plan was to make enough money to get to Paris and paint. So…”
Duffy: “So why didn’t you?”
Angela: “Honestly, I thought Booth was kind of cute.”
Hodgins: “But then she thought, ‘Why settle for cute when you could have ruggedly handsome?'”
“He was a psychologist with the Bureau, and I would argue that he’s probably the reason why we’re together? I would say yeah, pretty much.”
Brennan: “Sweets was a friend, but he’s dead now.”
Booth: “He was a psychologist with the Bureau, and I would argue that he’s probably the reason why we’re together? I would say yeah, pretty much.”
Brennan: “We still miss him a lot.”
Booth: “Yeah. He was a good friend and this job can be hard sometimes.”
“So what does that mean, the victim was beaten with a fish?”
Hodgins: “So the mass spec results show traces of urethane prepolymers, diphenylmethane-diisocyanate, and fish collagen.”
Cam: “So what does that mean, the victim was beaten with a fish?”
Hodgins: “No. Seriously?”
“What do I want to be when I grow up? I guess I want to be somebody who sees the beauty in the world and is able to share it with those around her.”
– Angela
“What do I want to be? I want to be someone who never stops looking.”
– Hodgins
“I want to be what every grown-up wants to be: a kid.”
– Aubrey
“I always wanted to be a husband a father.”
– Arastoo
“I love you. I love the way you protect me, and I love the way you fight for me. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Cam: “I love you. I love the way you protect me, and I love the way you fight for me. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Arastoo: “Wait, are you asking me if I’ll … “
Cam: “Marry me.”
Arastoo: “Uh…”
Cam: “Yes?”
Arastoo: “Yes, yes. Of course.”
“At the end of the day, I’d like to be someone who’s given more than they’ve taken.”
– Booth
“That’s easy. I’d like to be the mother of the world’s greatest car salesperson.”
Duffy: “Given all that you’ve already accomplished in your life, what is it you’d like to be when you grow up, Dr. Brennan?”
Brennan: “That’s easy. I’d like to be the mother of the world’s greatest car salesperson.”

If it’s on TV — especially if it’s a procedural or superhero show — chances are Meredith watches it. She has a love for all things fiction, starting from a young age with ER and The X-Files on the small screen and the Nancy Drew books. Arrow kicked off the Arrowverse and her true passion for all things heroes. She’s enjoyed getting into the minds of serial killers since Criminal Minds, so it should be no surprise that her latest obsession is Prodigal Son.
