With barely a month go before the September 8 premiere of Melrose Place, the CW has released a couple of videos featuring cast members of the reboot taking fans behind the scenes on the filming of the pilot.
Colin Egglesfield, who’ll play chef/surfer guy Auggie Kirkpatrick, takes viewers into how he’s been practicing for his role as sous chef, including massacring some lobsters while it’s still alive and moving (don’t ask) and eating better than sex cupcakes all in preparation for his character. To close off his show, Egglesfield shows off a trick he learned from somewhere that involved carving out an orange to produce a little orange peel man that doubles as something not advisable for kids watching.
Meanwhile, Jessica Lucas, who’ll take on the role of Riley Richmond, the sickly-sweet schoolteacher fiancée of Jonah (Michael Rady), does the same thing and takes everyone on set to Jonah and Riley’s apartment. Apart from Rady, also making an appearance was Davis Guggenheim, the Oscar-winning director of An Inconvenient Truth who also directed the show’s pilot episode. With Guggenheim taking the camera, Rady said in jest that he and Lucas must have kissed each other a thousand and one times (and they’re just on the first episode).
Also present on the two videos was Katie Cassidy, who for some reason was eating in both. “I’m eating in every single one of these videos,” she says. She will play PR whiz Ella on the upcoming CW show.
