In today’s Casting Bits — where we round up all the latest news on who’s joining and guest starring on all your favorite shows in the upcoming season — Nick Jonas is heading to Hawaii, another scientist will work for the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a “known killer” will show up on Teen Wolf. Read on for all the details, including casting news on Parenthood, New Girl, The Following, The Carrie Diaries and Bones.
Nick Jonas to guest star on Hawaii Five-0: The Jonas Brothers singer will be playing a computer hacker who’s involved in a case being investigated by the 5-0 team — but they better watch out for his motives because they might just be more complicated than first meets the eye. Executive producer Peter Lenkov said, “Nothing makes this show more fun than incorporating well-known, talented actors as guest stars on our show. We’re all thrilled to have Nick Jonas join our Ohana.”
Previously announced Hawaii Five-0 guest stars include Chi McBride, Carol Burnett, Tim Daly, Henry Ian Cusick, Jorge Garcia, Terry O’Quinn, Rebecca De Mornay, Taryn Manning and Rumer Willis.
Ian Hart is a scientist on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Since the Marvel universe deals with unexplained occurrences and phenomena, he’ll certainly be needed at the agency where Phil Coulson works. According to EW, this will be a recurring role for Hart, who you may know from Bates Motel, Luck and Dirt on TV, and as Professor Quirrell in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Unfortunately, we don’t know anything else about his character or how involved he will be in the storylines.
Doug Jones brings his sinister ways to Teen Wolf: The summer finale is coming up on August 19, but when the show returns next year for the remaining episodes of the season, prepare yourself for another monster. The actor will play Barrow, a “known killer,” according to TVLine. He’ll first appear in episode 15 (entitled “Galvanize”), which should be the third episode back after the hiatus.
Speaking of Teen Wolf, star Tyler Posey is set to guest star on the August 21 episode of TV Land’s The Exes as a “dangling piece of jail-bait meat” for Holly Franklin, played by Kristen Johnston, according to MTV. The sitcom actress posted a picture of them two of them on Instagram, saying, “Me & Jailbait @tylergposey. GORGEOUS, and one of the loveliest people to act with. I. LOVE. MY. JOB.”
Matthew Atkinson befriends Amber on Parenthood: Amber may be with Ryan at the moment, but things could change when the Jane by Design alum shows up in season 5 as Zach, a drummer in a band that’s headed up by newbie Oliver. When they’re at the Luncheonette, reports TVLine, he becomes friends with Amber — but will something more happen? Considering he has signed up for a multi-episode arc, you never know. We’ll have to tune in to find out.
There are a few more casting announcements for Parenthood: All-American Rejects’ Tyson Ritter will also be acting in scenes at the Luncheonette as part of a multi-episode arc, The Huffington Post reports. Also, Lyndon Smith will have a recurring role during season 5 as Natalie, a college student and possible love interest for Drew, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And as TVLine notes, True Blood‘s Jurnee Smollett is also showing up on a recurring basis as Heather Hall, who’s hired as a campaign manager by Kristina.
Angela Kinsey, Dreama Walker and Eva Amurri to cause trouble on New Girl: All three actresses are set to guest star in the upcoming third season — more specifically, in episode 2. Rose, played by Kinsey, is a teacher at the school Jess is substitute teaching at, and is described by TV Guide as being snobbish, but “cool.” Get ready for her to butt heads with Jess. Also playing a mean teacher is Walker, TVLine reports. And as for Amurri, we all remember her as Schmidt’s co-worker Beth, and unfortunately her showing up again may affect his relationship.
Connie Nielsen joins The Following: Her character, Lily Gray, is an art dealer from Soho who ends up in some trouble — but that may just be the start of it when Ryan Hardy tries to help her out. Nielsen is joining the FOX drama as a series regular, according to TVLine.
Molly Sims is on the prowl on The Carrie Diaries: E! Online reports that the Las Vegas actress will guest star in at least two episodes next season as Vicky — and she’s looking to hook up with Sebastian. What will Carrie Bradshaw think about that? For now, we don’t know, but Sims tweeted, “Love working in New York. So, so, so excited to be on The @CarrieDiariesCW!!” And executive producer Amy B. Harris told TVLine, “At times, [Sebastian will] make some very bad decisions for himself as he feels like he’s lost Carrie.” Yeah, this sounds like a bad decision, indeed.
Greg Rikaart guest starring on Bones: The soap actor will pop up in the September 23 episode of season 9 and comes across Booth and Brennan while they’re on a couples retreat. He told Soap Opera Digest, “I’m having a blast working on Bones. Such a welcome, talented group of people here and this story is amazing. It’s a fun character too, who is so different from Kevin,” his character on The Young and the Restless.
