The flood of exciting TV casting news this week is making our heads spin, with some familiar faces returning to the small screen, plus a casting decision that is making headlines and history. Check out the latest casting buzz.

Sandra Oh on American Crime

Oh, how we’ve missed Sandra Oh on our TVs since she left Grey’s Anatomy. She’ll be returning to ABC, this time as a guest star in a multi-episode arc on American Crime. We can’t wait to see what the flawless actress does with this meaty role, which Disney ABC Press describes as “Abby Tanaka, a social worker who runs a local shelter dedicated to housing victims of domestic abuse in the face of community indifference.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alec Baldwin on SNL

Just when you think things can’t get any hotter for Hamilton genius Lin-Manuel Miranda, it’s announced that he’ll be hosting the October 8 episode of Saturday Night Live. Miranda has had no shortage of work since leaving the Broadway stage, providing music for Disney’s next soon-to-be beloved classic Moana and hitting the big screen in the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel. Twenty One Pilots will be making their SNL debut as well, serving as the show’s musical guest.

It’s always a gift when Alec Baldwin hits up SNL as host or makes a small appearance, but in an election year when Donald Trump is ripe for a sketch comedy show to cover? Gold. While Darrell Hammond has been fitting the bill with his pitch perfect Trump, if this promo of Baldwin facing off with Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton is any indication, it’s going to be a slam dunk.

Jon Seda on Chicago Justice

Yes. So much yes. Jon Seda, who played Antonio Dawson on Chicago P.D., is making the move to the spin-off, Chicago Justice, where his character will be an investigator for the DA’s office. The details of when Seda will depart P.D. are still a bit fuzzy, with Deadline reporting “He is still on the cop drama, where his character will eventually depart for his new gig.”

Wyclef Jean on Law & Order: SVU

Rapper Wyclef Jean is taking a beat from his musical career to guest star on Law & Order: SVU, but it won’t be a huge departure for the star. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Jean will “play a famed music producer who’s newest and hottest client is embroiled in an assault case.” Look for the episode, titled “Bad Rap” (clever!) to air in the fall.

Modern Family Casts Transgender Actor

Modern Family has made TV history, casting the first openly transgender child actor on season 8, episode 2 that aired last night. Jackson Millarker, 8, played Lily’s friend Tom, in an episode titled “A Stereotypical Day.” The show allowed for a discussion about acceptance, with Cam and Mitchell learning an important lesson in the process.
