Castle takes a dip into reality TV with its February 11 episode called “Reality Star Struck.” Check out our exclusive interview with guest star Gail O’Grady, who plays one of the characters (would that be a real person?) on the show within the show.
The case in the episode takes place around a reality TV show, “I am playing a character named Margot who is a makeup mogul. Obviously it’s Castle so there’s a murder. It’s a different kind of Castle.” But it’s not your normal kind of reality show. Well, unless you think all reality TV is fake. “We are pretending to be in a reality show called ‘The Wives of Wall Street.'” O’Grady revealed.
Pretending to be on a reality TV show? Okay this just went to being a show within a show within a show — and now my head hurts. It sure does sound like a lot of fun though.
How does O’Grady’s character relate to the story? How else, “We are all suspects.” O’Grady said, not revealing of course whether her character is the killer or not. When asked if there was a possibility that she might return to the series, O’Grady added, “Not Unless [Castle and Beckett] decide that they’re fans of the show The Wives of Wall Street.” A possibility that doesn’t seem very likely, “I think that Castle’s attitude towards the show was sitting there watching [it] with a look on his face like ‘wow,’ so I don’t think he’ll be tuning in weekly for it.” O’Grady revealed.
O’Grady got the role on the show when one of the producers called and pitched this episode to her and she said yes, sight unseen, because it sounded like a good time. O’Grady said, “I’m a fan of the show and I had worked with the director before and I hadn’t played a character like this before so I thought it sounded like a blast.”
Working with the cast and crew was a pleasure for the actress. “They’ve put a great team together over there, they really have. When a show has been on that long, if it’s a good group, becomes a family and they’re definitely a family. They were very welcoming. [Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic] could not have been kinder and more enthusiastic about the guests that were on the show that week. It was really nice.” O’Grady said.
What do you think now that you’ve heard more about this episode of Castle from guest star O’Grady? Do you think her character will turn out to be the murderer or do you have a theory that it could be somebody else?
Castle airs on Monday nights at 10pm on ABC.
