Despite all the controversy surrounding Big Brother 15, CBS has renewed the show for next summer. Yes, Big Brother 16 is coming in the summer of 2014.
In addition, it was announced that Big Brother: After Dark will return to TVGN next summer as well.
Big Brother 15 may have had a lot of controversy, but it’s also had stellar ratings. Averaging 7.3 million viewers per episode, it’s up 11 percent from last season. A new episode Wednesday night even beat the season 3 premiere of The X Factor by half a million viewers.
Of course we won’t know what kinds of twists the show will have in store until next summer, but I assume the controversy of all the racist comments and personal attacks this year will affect the decisions. Will the show simply cast better people? Or will they do another All-Stars season, bringing back people who the producers know can make good TV without being vile and repugnant human beings?
Whatever the case, it’s no surprise that Big Brother will return for season 16 given its improved ratings. Not even a racism controversy can slow down this summer juggernaut.
The Big Brother 15 finale airs Wednesday, September 18 at 9:30pm following the premiere of Survivor: Blood vs. Water.
