Just when we thought Dayana Mendoza and Lisa Lampanelli were starting to get along (see Sunday’s episode, when the latter focused her zingers on Lou Ferrigno), Lampanelli proves us wrong. The outspoken “Queen of Mean” comedian discussed her “nemesis” on Sirius XM last week, using a racial slur to demean her Celebrity Apprentice castmate.
In the radio interview, Lampanelli said, “I actually would love to see [Dayana] giving birth. She’s a spic! She’s going to do it f—ing soon, anyway. She’ll be knocked up before the end of the week.”
No doubt used to being belittled by the notoriously offensive comic, Mendoza felt Lampanelli crossed a line, telling the Huffington Post, “I understand that it’s Lisa’s job to make fun of people for a living. If poking fun at me can help her sell tickets to her shows, no problem, I am happy to help her put food on her table.” But she felt this instance was different, saying, “However, when she uses racial slurs, she is not only targeting myself but degrading an entire Hispanic culture.” She added to E! News, “as a Latina, Lisa’s words aren’t just offensive to me, but to millions of other individuals.”
The Miss Universe Venezuelan native has scraped by a few times in the boardroom, including this week, when she was the project manager of the losing team. This time, however, Lampanelli defended Mendoza’s efforts and instead ridiculed Ferrigno for being completely useless (the former professional bodybuilder was ultimately fired). During Lampanelli’s recent on-air conversation, however, she didn’t hold back when it came to either celebrity — in addition to the racial insult, she mocked both Mendoza’s and Ferrigno’s intelligence (“he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed”).
Some have felt the professional jokester’s comments have gone too far, essentially bullying the other cast members with her hurtful words that go beyond the acceptable limits of humor. What do you think? Has Lampanelli crossed a line with her comments?
Lastly, it seems the drama surrounding Lampanelli will continue according to Clay Aiken, who promises “you ain’t seen NOTHING like what happens next week. I think Lisa bursts a blood vessel, and Dayana is even hotter when she cries!” For a preview of the episode, watch the clip below.

From there she went on to earn a BA in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania before settling in Seattle, where she now spends too much time pondering the power of narrative in TV shows and novels. While she loves a good smart comedy (a la Community or Parks and Recreation), her favorite current show is Breaking Bad; all-time mentions include Arrested Development, Lost and Friends. When she’s not consuming television or literature, she’s savoring pastries and searching for the city’s ultimate sandwich.
