On the sixth season finale of CSI: Miami, the forensic scientists explored a case that was initially considered an apparent suicide though it turned out to be murder. Horatio, on the other hand, found out that Ron Saris, the thug who killed Kathleen Newberry, is now living with his son Kyle and Kyle’s mother Julia. Horatio immediately insisted on Julia and Kyle to leave the country until things are settled. At the end of the episode, he put his life in jeopardy to save his team from being taken down as he was shot and left to die, leaving many CSI: Miami fans worried over the fate of Horatio Caine.

The last scene may have left viewers with the idea that David Caruso, who plays the head of the Miami crime lab, will be pulling another NYPD Blue stunt and will be leaving the show. However, this is not the case. In fact, his character Horatio will be back next fall for the seventh season of the CBS forensic drama, according to etonline.com.
“They’re setting up a very cool mystery of who tried to kill Horatio,” a show insider told etonline.com. “And it will be pretty amazing to see how Horatio gets himself out of this one.”
After Horatio was left lying in a pool of his own blood, Ryan Wolfe (Jonathan Togo) received a text massage saying “It is done,” leading viewers to believe he was involved. However, there are indications, including the sudden page to Ryan while he’s interviewing a suspect earlier in the episode, that point towards Caine and Wolfe staging Horatio’s death so that he may more easily pursue one of his greatest rivals on his own.
This was confirmed in CBS’ behind the scenes video where Caruso said “Horatio designed a staging of an event that will free him up to go after this man with a different license.”
