The crime scene investigations will continue for another year on CBS. The network has officially renewed its flagship procedural drama CSI for the 2013-2014 TV season.
The renewal comes with the news that the cast will all return, including its newest stars Ted Danson and Elisabeth Shue. Original cast members Jorja Fox, George Eads, Eric Szmanda and more will also return.
The show’s ratings have slipped since moving to Wednesday nights, but it still averages more than 10 million viewers per episode. Even it season 13 it has managed to beat two of the strongest freshman dramas of the year, ABC’s Nashville and NBC’s Chicago Fire, especially in reruns.
The renewal means CSI will reach its milestone 300th episode early next season. There is still no word on the fate of spin-off CSI: NY, though it seems possible the original could outlast both of its spin-offs.
CBS has previously renewed NCIS, The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother for the 2013-2014 TV season. With the network’s consistent level of success, odds are good that most of the programs CBS currently has on will be renewed, like 2 Broke Girls, Mile and Molly, Hawaii Five-0, NCIS: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, Survivor, Person of Interest, Elementary, Blue Bloods, The Amazing Race, The Good Wife and The Mentalist.
CSI airs Wednesdays at 10pm on CBS.
