Dancing with the Stars season 13 may be over, but that just means that the celebrities and professional dancers have more time on their hands for other activities. And other activities mean more news for us to report. This time around, professional dancer Karina Smirnoff and celebrity Carson Kressley are the ones making the DWTS news.
Karina Smirnoff Ends Her Engagement
The Mirror Ball champion from Dancing with the Stars season 13 isn’t having quite as much success in her personal life, it seems. Us Weekly has reported that the dancer has ended her relationship with fiance Brad Penny.
Although the wedding between Smirnoff and Penny, a professional baseball player, was still reported as a go until recently, there were some signs of problems. In October, they announced that their wedding would be postponed — with no new date given for the nuptials. Statements at the time indicated that this was mostly due to scheduling issues. Since Karina was, at that point, looking set to dance into the DWTS finals with J.R. Martinez, the news raised few alarms.
But maybe it should have.
Us Weekly quotes an unnamed source for their information and merely suggests that the couple went in different directions. No other reason for the breakup is given.
This would make the second high-profile relationship that has ended for Karina Smirnoff. In 2009, shortly before she was linked to Brad Penny, Karina and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, also of Dancing with the Stars, ended their relationship.
Carson Kressley Set to Star in a Christmas Movie
What is Christmas without cheesy made-for-TV movies teaching us the season’s true meaning? Next year, Carson Kressley will get in on the holiday fun when he co-stars in a Hallmark Channel update of the classic Charles Dickens story, A Christmas Carol.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the new movie, Caroling, will focus on a successful book publisher, Carol Huffman (played by Emmanuelle Vaugier of Two and a Half Men), whose drive and ruthless demeanor mean that she has no personal life and a group of employees who despise her.
Carson Kressley’s part in all of this will be as a colleague of Carol’s who is secretly organizing a coup to take her down. Star Wars‘ Carrie Fisher will play the (deceased) founder of Carol’s publishing company, who will guide the woman on her life’s past, present and future.
The movie is set to premiere next year, during the 2012 holiday season.
