Coming on the heels of the news that more and more professional dancers on Dancing with the Stars are getting more TV offers these days, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy have added yet another TV gig on their resume.
According to Perez Hilton, the real-life couple has just landed themselves their own reality TV series. These Dancing with the Stars professional are looking forward to possibly having a fall premiere, which would follow them as they pursue their dancing careers further, as well as their wedding plans.
Though not set in stone yet, Smirnoff has already given some hints to Life & Style.
“We haven’t signed on the dotted line yet, but hopefully it’s going to premiere this fall. The show’s just us trying to have a normal relationship being in the entertainment industry and opening a studio together,” she said, adding that it will be “a soap opera in themselves!”
Evidently, the studio Smirnoff is referring to will be an addition to the several Maksim already own, which includes the Rising Stars Dance Academy and two other social dance studios located in Ridgefield, NJ and Glen Head, NY.
Smirnoff is billed as “the first woman to ever make the British Professional Final with three different partners.” She is a five-time U.S. National Champion, World Trophy Champion, and Asian Open Champion, and has won the title at the UK Open.
Maksim, on the other hand, is often referred to as “the bad boy of the ballroom.” He is one of the creators and directors of Dance Team USA, a non-profit educational and charitable organization dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and training future DanceSport participants.
Last season on Dancing with the Stars, Smirnoff was paired with Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Wozniak, while Maksim was paired with actress Denise Richards.
Maksim began dating Smirnoff, in the summer of 2008. The couple announced their engagement on December 31, 2008.
