It’s been two weeks since anyone was eliminated on Dancing with the Stars. After two weeks of scores and viewers votes, including the Switch-Up, the lowest combined total will be eliminated in week 6.
It’s also Pitbull Night on DWTS, meaning the music superstar will be performing and serve as the guest judge for Len Goodman, who should really just retire at this point instead of making us angry that his spot is filled with unworthy guests. As annoying as Julianne Hough has become and as nice as Carrie Ann Inaba is, I’d be happy with the classic three-judge format again.
There’s no real theme for this week as the nine remaining couples will each perform to Pitbull songs as well as songs he likes. On the bright side, the styles return to normal, with plenty of Salsas, Tangos, Foxtrots and Rumbas.
The combined two-week leaderboard makes a very clear distinction between who should be safe and which couples are in danger.
THE LEADERBOARD
74: Alfonso Ribeiro
73: Sadie Robertson, Lea Thompson
69: Janel Parrish
65: Bethany Mota
57: Antonio Sabato, Jr.
51: Tommy Chong
48: Jonathan Bennett
45: Michael Waltrip
DEFINITELY SAFE
The Top 5 should all be safe. By this point every season it becomes clear who actually has a chance to win, and those five stars are the only ones actually in the race. Alfonso Ribeiro and Janel Parrish are probably the best actual dancers. Lea Thompson is hit-or-miss, but has the best storyline since she’s an older star who always wanted to be a ballerina. Sadie Robertson is a solid dancer with a lot of fan support and Bethany Mota has Derek Hough, a pro who has finished in the top two for the past four seasons in a row.
IN JEOPARDY
That leaves the other four men, all of whom could theoretically be eliminated. Antonio Sabato, Jr. is stuck in the middle of the leaderboard, but he seems rather off-putting and may not have a lot of fan support, instead relying on the popularity of partner Cheryl Burke. Tommy Chong started strong, but has slipped dramatically in recent weeks and his momentum is going the wrong way.
But the real danger is for Jonathan Bennett and Michael Waltrip, who’ve pulled in 5s and 6s over the past two weeks. Jonathan has been a total mess and Michael is a joke who, unlike Bill Engvall, isn’t funny. The judges have made it clear that both of them need to go ASAP.
MY PREDICTION
I predict Jonathan Bennett and Allison Holker will be eliminated. Michael may be a little be lower on the leaderboard, but he probably has the sympathy vote since the judges were extra-cruel with their paddles last week, giving him all 5s. He also has NASCAR support while Jonathan only has Mean Girls fans, who are probably disappointed that he isn’t better.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael goes instead of Jonathan, or if the producers decide to switch things up and make Monday a double elimination just to speed up the process. But given how low their scores are, even Tommy or Antonio being eliminated would ba surprise.
