The cast for Dancing with the Stars season 25 is rounding out and for the first time in many seasons, this year will feature a basketball player. According to People, Derek Fisher, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers and more recently coached the Knicks, will be one of the stars in the upcoming season.
Paralympic Swimmer Joins DWTS Season 25>>>
Fisher, 43, recently made headlines for a different reason earlier this summer, pleading no contest to a DUI after being involved in a car crash. Based on Instagram, it seems his partner will be Sharna Burgess.
Malcolm in the Middle Star Joins DWTS Season 25>>>
While DWTS regularly features football players, Fisher will become only the fourth NBA player to compete on the show. The last one was Metta World Peace in season 13, who was the first one eliminated. Rick Fox made it to sixth place in season 11 and Clyde Drexler finished in eighth place on season 4. However, Fisher might have an edge since he’s only 6’1” while those other NBA players were 6’7”, so there will be less of a height difference.
DWTS Reveals First Official Couple: Emma Slater and Drew Scott>>>
Based on pre-season spoilers, Fisher is the eighth celebrity we know of who will be on DWTS season 25. The others are Nick and Vanessa Lachey, Property Brothers star Drew Scott, Disney actor Jordan Fisher, Malcolm in the Middle‘s Frankie Muniz, WWE diva Nikki Bella and former Paralympic swimmer Victoria Arlen.
DWTS Spoilers: 4 More Couples Revealed>>>
That leaves five spots left, including the partners for Cheryl Burke, Mark Ballas, Keo Motsepe, Gleb Savchenko and first-time pro Alan Bersten. Us Weekly reported that Bobby Brown was originally cast (presumably as Cheryl’s partner), but dropped out at the last minute.
The full cast of stars and their partners will be revealed Wednesday, September 6 on Good Morning America. Dancing with the Stars season 25 premieres Monday, September 18 at 8/7c on ABC.
