Weeks after Olympic gymnast snagged the Dancing with the Stars plum, Shawn Johnson has reportedly broke the coveted disco ball trophy and is now in the repair shop. The news was revealed to MTV News by the 17-year-old’s professional partner Mark Ballas.
“We had to take them to New York and they shipped them back and when they opened the box, they were in pieces,” he adds. “They’re fixing them.”
“I called [Mark] and I was like, ‘My trophy’s broke!’ ” Johnson says.
As to what happens next after her successful stint at the ABC reality competition, she says she hopes her stint on Dancing with the Stars might jumpstart her acting career, adding that she was offered some “opportunities to do movies or TV shows.” Up to now, she says, she is still not sure what to do next.
As for Ballas, the 23-year-old will return to the ABC stage if the producers of the show would have him, and there’s no clear reason why they wouldn’t. Ballas, after all, has won two seasons of DWTS – this one and on the sixth season with celebrity partner Kristi Yamaguchi, herself an Olympian.
In other news, E! Online reports that runner-up Gilles Marini is off the operating room table and on his way to recovery after he was rushed to the hospital yesterday for shoulder injuries related to his stint on DWTS. He was supposed to undergo surgery for the injury earlier this season but opted out of it in order to continue competing on the show.
“Because I am not dancing anymore, it feels fine,” he said in a previous interview shortly after the finals. “But I need to schedule [the surgery], because the recovery time is about three weeks, and I don’t want to spend too much time doing nothing.”
