The 25th Miss Teen USA competition will be aired live on Friday, August 24, with Days of our Lives star Shelley Hennig serving as one of the celebrity judges.
The 20-year-old actress, who plays Stephanie Johnson on Days of Our Lives, won the crown for Louisiana in 2004, becoming the first to do so for the state. She was also the first Louisiana native to capture a national title since Ali Landry was named Miss USA 1996. Winning the pageant secured Hennig a one-year-modeling contract with Trump Modeling Management, a scholarship to the School for Film and Television in New York and a guest role on another NBC soap opera, Passions.
Shelley Hennig joined the cast of Days of Our Lives early this year. She was brought in as the replacement of actress Shayna Rose, who played the role from July 2006 to January of this year. Hennig’s Stephanie is the daughter of the show’s supercouple Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla Brady (Mary Beth Evans).
Joining Shelley Hennig on the Miss Teen USA’s judges’ panel are Coty Beauty Vice President Jay Clarke, Victoria’s Secret Model Selita Ebanks, William Morris Agency’s Senior Vice President John Ferriter, actress Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina, the Teenage Witch), actor Joey Lawrence (Dancing with the Stars), Warner Bros. Records Vice President of Artist Development Nick Light, professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler (Life of Ryan), actress Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) and YMI Jeans President David Vered.
Actor Mario Lopez (Dancing with the Stars, Saved by the Bell) will host the event, which will take place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium from 8-10pm ET/PT. Guest performers for the night include 19-year-old singer Kat DeLuna and the pop rock band, Jonas Brothers.
All contestants will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview. At the end of the night, the most deserving will be crowned the next Miss Teen USA, taking over last year’s winner, Katie Blair.
