While clearly, there was a lot of things going on with the Bones finale. Apart from the Bones-Booth romp, Stewie, and Motley Crue, however, there was also the much-anticipated return of Zack, played by Eric Millegan, who was replaced in season 4 after he received his doctorate in forensic anthropology in the sophomore season. As for Emily Deschanel, who plays the titular character on the Fox procedural, having Zack back on the Bones set was “wonderful.”
“I enjoy his company so much. I became friends with him over the years, like I have with most of the cast, and it was really hard to not have him around all the time. But that said, when he came back for the finale, it was as if no time had passed. He just walked in, and it was great to act with him again and hang out with him on set. It was a breath of fresh air.”
Deschanel, 32, has the same sentiment on the matter of Stewie crossing over to the show. “I thought it was such a brilliant crossover kind of episode. I haven’t seen the end result, but the script was so funny and moving, and it’s kind of got emotion and drama. Basically, in that episode, I ask Booth to father a child with me, and he starts to hallucinate and sees Stewie from Family Guy. The way it’s done is to be believable. I mean, if you’re going to see a hallucination, it might as well – it could be a cartoon as easily as it could be another human being, so I think it’s done very well.”
On last night’s finale, Booth (David Boreanaz) had a vivid dream while undergoing surgery for a brain tumor. He dreamt that he and Bones are married and they owned a nightclub called The Lab. The dream ended with Brennan telling Booth that she was pregnant. When he woke up, she asked the real-life Dr. Brennan who she was.
