“1000-lb Sisters” made its debut in January 2020 on TLC, and it didn’t take long for the show to win over a lot of fans with its over-the-top characters and drama. So much so that fans of the show signed a petition for the producers of the reality TV show to do a third and fourth season. The petition has been signed by over 6,000 people.
Well, viewers partly got their wish because season three premiered in November 2021, but season four still remains to be seen. Are you new to the antics of sisters Amy and Tammy Slaton, though? This article will quickly go over interesting information about the show, its characters, where you can watch it, and more.
What Is “1000-lb Sisters” About?
“1000-lb Sisters” is an American reality TV show on TLC focused on the daily lives and weight loss journey of two sisters — Amy Slaton-Halterman and Tammy Slaton. The name of the show is derived from the weight of both sisters put together, which was a little over 1,000 pounds when the show began.
While “1000-lb Sisters” is primarily about Amy and Tammy’s weight loss journeys, so much is also shared about the sisters’ lives and personalities along the way — including their relationships with their siblings (and their own respective weight loss journeys).
Who Are the Main Characters of “1000-lb Sisters?”
Since the show is about sisters Tammy and Amy Slaton, both are the main characters — alongside Amy’s husband Michael Halterman and their adorable dog Little Bit.
About Tammy Slaton
Tammy is a 35-year-old American TV personality born in Dixton, Kentucky. Before featuring as a character in “1000-lb Sisters,” Tammy earned money creating content on YouTube — and she still does. In fact, her YouTube channel currently has around 148,000 subscribers.
When the show began in 2020, Tammy weighed 605 pounds. At the end of season two and at her final weigh-in, Tammy hadn’t made any progress in her weight loss journey. In fact, she gained more weight and reached 666 pounds.
There was speculation that it could be due to the fact that she had to put her weight loss journey on hold when she came down with COVID-19. However, Tammy opened up to her bariatric surgeon, Dr. Smith, about her food addiction and how she hasn’t been maintaining a healthy diet.
Fast-forward to the season three finale, when Tammy has a health crisis and is rushed to the hospital. But at last, she seems to have made some progress on her weight loss journey, as her brother Chris Combs announced at the conclusion of season three that she had lost 115 pounds.
The reality star also recently shared a series of selfies on her Instagram, which got her fans excited over the improvement and they wished her the best during rehabilitation. If Tammy keeps making such rapid progress in her weight loss journey, she might soon be ready for her weight loss surgery.
About Amy Slaton
Amy Slaton-Halterman is the other half of “1000-lb Sisters” and was born in Dixon, Kentucky. Before starring in “1000-lb Sisters,” though, Amy combined taking care of her sister Tammy with being a YouTube content creator. She was still Tammy’s caretaker after the show started until she hired Tisa, an in-home nurse, in season three.
Amy currently has more than 500,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, where she creates content regularly.
Amy began her weight loss journey on the “1000-lb Sisters” show, at 406 pounds. However, by the end of season one, Amy had lost enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery. Amy and her husband, Michael Halterman, welcomed their first child, Gage, in November 2020.
After the birth, Amy lost 136 pounds and weighed 270 pounds. It’s not known yet, though, if Amy has lost any more weight, as season three ended in January 2022. What’s clear is that Amy is living an improved life. In fact, she and her husband are expecting a second baby and have bought a house.
About Michael Halterman
Michael is one of the main characters in “1000-lb sisters.” He’s married to the younger of the Slaton sisters, Amy Halterman, and they have a child together and are expecting another. On the show, he’s relatively quiet but continues to be a supportive and caring husband to Amy. He also often helps take care of Tammy.
Mike and Amy both grew up in Dixon, Kentucky, and they met and became friends during high school. The pair had a long-distance relationship for a while before finally getting married in Nashville, Tennessee, in March 2019.
Michael often features in Amy’s YouTube videos. He also has a very active gaming YouTube channel and a Cameo channel.
Other Show Characters
There are a few other interesting characters on “1000-lb Sisters,” including:
- Chris Combs: Chris is the eldest sibling of the Slaton family. Chris joined his sisters in their weight loss journey so he could motivate his sister Tammy. He has always worked in the food industry. Chris got married to Brittanny, a co-worker of his while he worked at McDonald’s, and they have been married for over five years.
- Misty Slaton-Wentworth: Misty is the eldest sister of Amy and Tammy Slaton and is known for showing tough love to her sisters, even going so far as to call Tammy’s life goals “whack.” She also insisted that Tammy face her health rather than pursue a love life.
- Amanda Halterman: Amanda is younger than Misty but older than Tammy and Amy. She was introduced to the series in the third season. Amanda also had weight loss surgery seven years ago. In a recent episode, Amanda confronted Tammy for speaking down on her siblings. Her bold personality has made her a fan favorite, so much so that she was voted as the “favorite Slaton family member” on Reddit.
- Little Bit: “Little,” for short, is Amy and Michael Halterman’s pet dog. However, it seems Little was Michael’s dog long before Michael and Amy met. Little has been a feature in “1000-lb Sisters” since season one, and she probably hasn’t met anyone she doesn’t like.
How Many “1000-lb Sisters” Seasons and Episodes Are There?
Currently, there are three seasons of “1000-lb Sisters,” with the last episode of the third season premiering at the end of January 2022.
Season 1 had six episodes that aired between Jan. 1 and Feb. 5, 2020, while season two had 10 episodes and aired between Jan. 4 and March 8, 2021. Meanwhile, season three had 12 episodes, which aired between Nov. 15, 2021, and Jan. 31, 2022.
The finale of season three ended with mixed feelings. While Amy announces she and her husband are expecting a second baby, Tammy’s health hits a low point and she’s rushed to the hospital.
It’s not clear whether there will be a season four, but fingers crossed!
