One of the new and highly anticipated anime series coming out in 2022 is “In the Land of Leadale,” also known as “Riadeiru no Daichi nite.” The anime might be a new series, but the storyline is well known already.
The Japanese light novel series, which the show is based on, was originally published online from 2010 to 2012. The series was written by Ceez, with Tenmaso illustrating. The publishing imprint Famitsu Bunko has since published six volumes, beginning in January 2019, that include all the serialized stories. Also in 2019, a manga adaptation was created by Ryo Suzukaze and Dashio Tsukimi, which consists of three volumes. Yen Press, also known as Yen On, has published the light novel volumes and the manga adaptation in English.
With the new series premiering soon, there is a lot for fans old and new to catch up on. To learn everything we know so far about this new isekai anime series, keep reading. Where Can You Watch the In the Land of Leadale Anime?
The next big question for anime fans is where they’ll be able to watch the new series once it does premiere. When the show premieres in January, it will do so on Tokyo MX in Japan. It also appears to have been licensed by Crunchyroll for the simulcast, so viewers outside of Japan can plan to watch the series at that time, as well.
Who Will Produce the In the Land of Leadale Anime?
The animation studio producing “In the Land of Leadale” is Maho Film. The company is relatively new, having been founded in the first half of 2018 by CEO Junji Murata. The name Maho means magic, and the studio is committed to creating magical content.
Being new, they are not as well known as some other anime studios, but they have produced a few other popular shows in addition to “In the Land of Leadale,” including:
-
“If It’s for My Daughter, I’d Even Defeat a Demon Lord”: This 12-episode series follows Dale, an adventurer, who goes deep into a forest for a job and instead finds a devil child named Latina. Dale can’t bring himself to just leave the girl there to die, so he becomes her adoptive father.
-
“I’m Standing on a Million Lives”: Yuusuke Yotsuya, Iu Shindo, and Kusue Hakozaki all encounter a mysterious creature with only half a face. That creature transports them to an alternate universe. While there, they must complete quests within a game. If one of them survives until the time limit on the game expires, they are all reset.
-
“By the Grace of the Gods”: Another 12-episode series, “By the Grace of the Gods,” premiered in 2020. In it, Ryoma Takebayashi dies alone after an accident that occurred while he slept. He’s reincarnated by three gods who loved him. In his new life, he is a child but retains all of his knowledge and skills. He uses those and blessings from the gods to overcome challenges and meet people.
“In the Land of Leadale” will be directed by Takeyuki Yanase. Character design will be handled by Eri Kojima, Kaho Deguchi, and Toshihide Matsudate. The script for the series has been done by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and the music is composed by Kujira Yumemi.
What Is In the Land of Leadale About?
As far as anime goes, the “In the Land of Leadale” series is a little bit lighter, with none of the blood and gore many other manga and anime shows bring us. The recently released trailer and images confirm that the show, too, will be full of magic and adventure.
Assuming the anime stays close to the light novel series, we’ll first meet Keina Kagami, a girl who has been in a horrific accident and now is on life support. Keina’s only freedom from a life in her bed is playing the VRMMORPG game in the World of Leadale. One day, a power outage causes her life support to fail.
When she wakes up, Keina finds she is now in the body of her game avatar, whom she named Cayna. As Cayna, she discovers that Leadale isn’t quite what she remembered, not to mention the land is now somehow real. Her artificial intelligence assistant, named Key, informs her that when her life support failed, she was disconnected from the game and her spirit somehow uploaded to a Leadale 200 years in the future. Now, Cayna will have to undertake new beginnings in familiar lands as she decides to take advantage of her new freedom and experience the new world while seeking out old friends who may or may not still be alive.
In the light novel series, the story highlights Cayna’s travels and the people she has an opportunity to interact with. Some of the most important interactions are with Skargo, Mai-Mai, and an adopted dwarf named Kartatz. Because Cayna was known as one of the most powerful players of the game, the show is able to give some comedic relief to show that she is rather overpowered in some of the actions she takes as she gets used to her new form.
