“World’s End Harem” (終末 の ハーレム) is a very popular harem manga series that was first published on Shueisha’s “Shonen Jump” website. It’s about a boy living in a post-apocalyptic world where a lethal disease has killed most of the world’s male population, leaving a huge gender disparity. Of course, it’s the duty of the few remaining men to help repopulate the world by impregnating as many women as possible.
The manga is written by LINK, who also writes many spin-offs to this series like “World’s End Harem: Fantasia” and “World’s End Harem: Britannia Lumiere.” Kotaro Shono does the illustrations for the manga.
The manga series is so popular that two audio versions of the manga have been released and DMM games produced a virtual reality version of it in 2019. In 2020, the news came out that Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ were creating a “World’s End Harem” anime based on the manga.
Yu Nobuta, the show’s director, has previously directed other anime like “A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd.” Tatsuya Takahashi, the head scriptwriter for the anime, has written for animations like “Beatless” and “Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom.”
If you’re a fan of risque anime with compelling stories, “World’s End Harem” might be right up your alley. In this article, we’ll give you a synopsis of what this series is all about. We’ll also let you know when and where you’ll be able to check out the anime for yourself.
When Will the “World’s End Harem” Anime Premiere?
“World’s End Harem” was supposed to start its run on Oct. 8, 2021. While the first episode of the show did air on that date (in Japan), the launch of the subsequent episodes of the first season has been pushed back to early 2022. The official release date for the rest of season one is set for Jan. 7, 2022.
Why Was the World’s End Harem Anime Delayed?
On Oct. 8, 2021, the same day the initial episode of the TV anime premiered, its official Twitter account announced that the rest of the show wouldn’t air until early 2022. The official reason for the delay was that the production crew still needed to submit the episode production of “World’s End Harem” for careful examination.
There are a few things this statement could mean. It could mean that some of the material in the anime might be considered too racy to appear on certain streaming networks and Japanese TV channels. It’s possible that the production company is using the extra few months to censor the show and dial back some of its mature content.
Another possibility is that the production of this series hasn’t wrapped yet. The coronavirus pandemic has taken a huge toll on the anime industry, and a number of highly anticipated shows have experienced long production delays. It’s not hard to imagine that “World’s End Harem” is experiencing similar problems.
Where Can You Watch “World’s End Harem?”
Japanese audiences will be able to see “World’s End Harem” on channels like Tokyo MX, AT-X, and BS Fuji. If you prefer to watch anime online, this show will also stream on Crunchyroll, where it will be available to a global audience. However, there’s no word yet on whether other streaming platforms, like Netflix and Funimation, will carry the show.
Will “World’s End Harem” Season 2 Happen?
No word has been officially released, but judging from the mediocre reviews, we wouldn’t be surprised if the second season of “World’s End Harem” never sees the light of day. Having an average 5.9 out of 10 IMDb rating from over one thousand users who mostly complained about content censorship doesn’t prove anyone would care to watch another season anyway.
What Is “World’s End Harem” About?
“World’s End Harem” begins in the year 2040. The series’ protagonist, Mizuhara Reito, is a student at the National Advanced Medical School in Tokyo. He’s in love with one of his classmates, Elisa Tachibana, who he’s known since childhood.
Reito’s life takes a turn for the worse when he’s diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). He’s put into deep freeze sleep while a cure for his disease is being developed. Reito awakens in 2045 to what seems like another world entirely.
Nearly the entire world’s male population has disappeared due to the deadly Man Killer Virus (MK Virus). Mizuhara Reito is told that only he and four other male studs have immunity to this lethal disease. This means that he must take part in one simple mission – a breeding program designed to create a new generation of male children who can withstand the virus.
However, Reito still has feelings for Elisa, and he is not sex-crazed for other women. He decides to focus his efforts on finding a cure for the Man Killer Virus and finding his one true love, Elisa, who has mysteriously vanished while he’s been in a deep-freeze sleep. At times, the show follows the stories of the other four male studs who are immune to the Man Killer Virus as well.

A Clever Harem Story
The best thing about this anime is its story and themes. We can see Reito Mizuhara considering it extremely hard to find himself after waking up after the cryogenic sleep in this sex-crazed new world, focused on one simple mission – restoring the world’s male population. Unlike the four other male studs, he doesn’t want to have sex with many women, but he just needs to find his one true love again. But will Reito resist the temptation to the end? Will he find Elisa again?
It is quite an original harem story, happening in a future world that comes to an end despite huge technological development. As you can expect, there are many women in his anime, and they are all very nicely designed. If you watch anime online very often, especially from this genre, you may consider some moments quite predictable, but the narrative is really good and succeeds at keeping the viewer’s attention nevertheless.
The opening theme is catchy and makes a good introduction to the story, helping you to feel the vibe of this sex-crazed new world where Reito and the four other male studs need to fit in and stop the lethal disease.
