The Bones episode featuring cartoon land’s beloved megalomaniac baby Stewie Griffin from Family Guy will air tonight. As reported previously, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) is set to ask Booth (David Boreanaz) to be the “baby daddy” of her kid. And while she assures him that he’ll be under “no obligation” to look after the welfare of the baby, he still feels the pressure, and in one dream sequence, starts to hallucinate and imagine Stewie. The Family Guy import, meanwhile, asks him why he’s “threatened by a cute, harmless baby.”
For Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, the team-up with the Fox forensic procedural had been a breeze and the Stewie cameo was done in “a classy way.”
“Bones has been really cool to us. We’ve worked with them a bunch of times. Every time we have a live-action gag on the show, it’s usually shot on the Bones set by the Bones team. They’ve really been very neighborly. They came to us and they said it’d be really cool to have Stewie do a guest spot and we were like, “Absolutely. It’s the least we can do. We owe you a hundred times over.” It was fun. They did a great job with it.”
MacFarlane, who recently marked the 100th episode for his other opus American Dad, revealed that the voice work for the Stewie guest spot was recorded in the Family Guy office and it took 30 minutes tops. “We sent over a bunch of options for them to choose from.”
As for how long the notorious baby appears on tonight’s Bones episode, he says he could be in as much as 10 percent of the episode.
“There were a bunch of scenes and I don’t know how many they’re going to keep in. The more that are kept in, obviously, the more expensive it is to animate. They did a great job on all of them, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the result is.”
