Unlike Hélio Castroneves who enthusiastically signed up and won the fifth season of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, IndyCar racer Danica Patrick has declined to join the infamous competitive reality series.
“No way,” Patrick told The Indianapolis Star about the possibility of participating on Dancing with the Stars. “I’m telling you, no way.”
Patrick was recommended by Castroneves as a possible Dancing with the Stars participant to the show’s producers. But the expectations Castroneves created on the dance floor would be too much to overcome, according to Patrick, who has also yet to earn her first win behind the wheel since joining the IndyCar Series in 2005.
“His personality is so infectious,” Patrick said. “He smiles all the time, he plays to the camera, and he loves [the attention]. I’m a little too serious. People at home would be going, ‘What’s wrong [with her]?'”
“It won’t be enough to do [Dancing with the Stars] now; you’ll have to win it,” she added.
Named Rookie of the Year for both the 2005 Indianapolis 500 and the 2005 IndyCar Series season, Patrick has been featured on the cover of the June 6, 2005 issue of Sports Illustrated, making her the first Indianapolis 500 driver on the cover of the magazine. She has hosted several TV shows on Spike TV, including the Powerblock, and has been featured in the 2005 documentary Girl Racers. She has also published her autobiography, Danica: Crossing the Line.
While Patrick has already refused to grace the dance floor, another celebrity has been rumored to join the next season of Dancing with the Stars. Former child star Kristy McNichol (Family, Empty Nest) is reportedly set for a dazzling return to the limelight after quitting acting when she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1994. Now, she is being considered as a rival to former Brady Bunch actress Florence Henderson in the upcoming dance-off.
