FOX has found its Brad and Janet. The network announced that Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan have been cast in the TV movie remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, scheduled to air in Fall 2016.
Justice is a pop singer who starred in her own Nickelodeon show, Victorious. More recently, she was the star of MTV’s Eye Candy. McCartan stars on Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie and also has a musical background, appearing in a stage production of Heathers the Musical, based on the cult classic ’80s film.
The two will play Janet and Brad, a pair of lovers who stumble into the strange home of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, who will be played by Emmy nominee Laverne Cox from Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black.
In addition, FOX has released two other roles cast for the TV movie musical. Reeve Carney, who plays Dorian Gray on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, will take on the role of Riff Raff, the doctor’s assistant. Carney appeared on Broadway as the star of the ill-fated Spiderman musical.
Finally, British model and singer Staz Nair will play the titular role of Rocky, the handsome creature. Nair auditioned for the U.K. version of The X Factor as part of a boy band and will have a role in the upcoming sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
FOX’s remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show follows the recent trend of TV musicals, from NBC’s The Wiz, Peter Pan and The Sound of Music to FOX’s upcoming Grease. However, unlike those productions, Rocky Horror will not be live. It will be filmed this winter and set to air in the fall, most likely around Halloween time.
