The doctor will be in, again. In a predictable move given the show’s solid ratings and strong presence at awards shows, FOX officially renewed House today for an eighth season. This follows news yesterday that the network renewed animated shows Family Guy and The Cleveland Show.
These renewals come a week before FOX officially unveils its fall line-up, and the network doesn’t have a lot of room left for new shows or current shows on the bubble.
In addition to these three, The Simpsons, Raising Hope, Bones, Fringe and Glee were already renewed. The network also has the Simon Cowell reality competition The X Factor as well as the dinosaur drama Terra Nova on tap for the fall.

Assuming The X Factor sticks to the network’s tradition of American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance with three hours per week, this leaves just three unplanned hours of programming per week.
With potential new shows filling those slots, the chances of renewals for The Chicago Code, Lie to Me, Traffic Light, Breaking In, Bob’s Burgers and American Dad are dwindling, unless the network’s slate of new shows is so bad that they have no choice but to keep existing ones.
All will officially be revealed Monday, May 16 when FOX has its annual upfront presentation to announce its 2011-2012 schedule.
