Only halfway through the second season of their critically acclaimed limited series Fargo, FX has already decided to pick the show up for season 3.
“Year 2 of Fargo is an extraordinary achievement and, given Noah Hawley’s masterful storytelling, we can’t wait to see where the third, all-new version of Fargo takes us,” announced Eric Schrier, and Nick Grad, Presidents of Original Programming for FX Networks and FX Productions.

Season 2 of the series (starring Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, Ted Danson, Nick Offerman and Brad Garrett) takes place in 1979 in Luverne, North Dakota. It follows the story of Peggy Blumquist (Dunst) and husband Ed (Plemons) as they cover up a hit-and-run murder of the son of a major crime family, Rye Gerhardt. Meanwhile, a Minnesota state trooper who’s just returned from Vietnam investigates the crimes of the Gerhardt family while trying to protect presidential hopeful Ronald Reagan during his campaign stop in town.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Fargo has gotten renewed again, as the show does remarkably well among both critics and fans. Some were skeptical that the series would lose its steam when the incredible ensemble cast of season 1 (including Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Bob Odenkirk and many more) exited. However, season 2 has already proven its worth by staying fresh with a just-as-epic cast. Many even say that season 2 is better than season 1. FX seems confident that this trend will continue into next season.
Fargo season 2 airs Mondays at 10pm on FX.
