SAMCRO will be riding through this town a little longer. The hit FX drama Sons of Anarchy was renewed for a fifth season today, following the recent end of production on season 4. Sons of Anarchy season 5 will most likely premiere in September 2012.
The drama about a ruthless motorcycle club is FX’s highest-rated series, and the recent season 4 premiere drew the show’s biggest ratings ever, just under 5 million viewers.
Despite rave reviews from critics and solid ratings for a cable drama, Sons of Anarchy has been conspicuously absent from the Emmy Awards, an issue creator Kurt Sutter has gotten into trouble for raising on his Twitter account. Star Katey Sagal (who is married to Sutter) won a Golden Globe this year, yet the show has only received one Emmy nominations in its first three seasons for its Main Title Them Music.
The renewal also means things will most likely not go as planned for the characters in its current season. The leaders of the club, Jax and Clay (Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman) have spent the first half of season 4 planning their escape from the life of gun-running.
Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays at 10pm on FX.
