Good news, SAMCRO fans. Even though the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy won’t premiere until the fall, FX has already renewed the popular biker drama for season 6. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the renewal comes as part of the network’s new deal with creator Kurt Sutter.
In addition, people close to the show assume that FX will also renew Sons of Anarchy for a seventh season, which they believe would be the final one as part of Sutter’s master plan for the series.
The news is exciting, but hardly surprising. Sons of Anarchy is FX’s highest-rated show, regularly pulling in close to 4 million viewers. The fourth season premiere was the show’s highest-rated episode ever with 4.93 million viewers.
It’s also one of the network’s most prestigious shows, and while the Emmys have often ignored it, star Katey Sagal did win a Golden Globe Award for her role as Gemma.
The renewal ensures Sons of Anarchy‘s place among the great long-running dramas of FX, including The Shield, Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me.
Sons of Anarchy season 5 will premiere this fall, while season 6 will most likely launch in the fall of 2013.
