In a move that will surprise no one, HBO has renewed its fantasy epic Game of Thrones for a third season. The show recently began its second season with its highest ratings ever, 3.9 million viewers. The season’s second episode nearly matched that with 3.8 million.
It’s success and popularity essentially ensures that Game of Thrones will be allowed to run for as long as the writers need to tell author George R.R. Martin’s story. It’s highly doubtful HBO will cancel the series before they run out of the source material, which won’t be for a long time.
Game of Thrones currently airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO.
