I am truly and deeply saddened to report that Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead on Saturday, July 13. He was 31.
Monteith was found in the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancouver shortly after noon. He checked into the room on July 6 and was scheduled to check-out on Saturday. The night before he was seen with friends, but he returned to the room alone later that night. When he didn’t check out, his body was discovered and he had been deceased for several hours. There were no signs of foul play.
This is shocking and tragic news. It was not only sudden, but as an actor starring on a hit TV series, Monteith’s death comes at the height of his career.
The actor received treatment for substance abuse when he was 19. This year he checked himself into rehab again on March 31, leaving one month later after completing his treatment. The second stint led to him not appearing in the final episodes of Glee season 4.
Cory Monteith was born May 11, 1982 in Calgary, Albertan Canada. He started his acting career with a minor guest role on Stargate: Atlantis in 2004 and the 2005 TV movie Killer Bash. He had minor roles in Supernatural and Smallville, then landed a recurring role on ABC Family’s Kyle XY.
His big break came in 2009 when he was cast as Finn Hudson, the jock-turned-singer in FOX’s Glee. It’s a role that has won him a SAG Award, a Teen Choice Award and a People’s Choice Award nomination.
Monteith was dating his Glee co-star Lea Michele.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Monteith family and his Glee family.
