From books to a TV series —they might as well make a movie out of Gossip Girl too! It’s going to take some time before the CW teen drama heads to the big screen, after all, the show just wrapped up its second season. However, if and when that happens, cast members Leighton Meester and Jessica Szohr are definitely in.
“We’ve been asked that a lot,” Szohr, who plays down-to-earth Vanessa Abrams on the show, told MTV News. “I’m in….If they do that, I don’t think it’ll be for a couple more years. We’re just going into the third season. But I think it’d be fun; we’d all be excited to do it.”
“A Gossip Girl movie could be compared to a Sex and the City-type of movie,” added Meester, referring to the similarities in the confessional, sexy, martini-drinking worlds. “I think that would be kind of hot.”
These days, more and more movies have been spun off from TV series. Sex and the City: The Movie, which became a box office hit, X-Files, which has launched two big screen installments, and Star Trek, the 11th feature film from the sci-fi franchise, are just a few of examples of TV shows that have successfully made the leap to the silver screen. Could Gossip Girl be the next big thing?
For now, however, the cast of Gossip Girl is concentrating on the upcoming season of the show.
“We’ll see what happens,” said Meester, who plays Queen Bee Blair Waldorf. “There’s no resolution in each episode — it’s always a cliffhanger.”
Additionally, Szohr is also filming the horror remake Piranha 3D, which hits theaters on March 19, 2010, while Meester is working on the thriller Roommate alongside Twilight‘s Cam Gigandet as well as the comedy movie Date Night with James Franco and Mark Wahlberg.
