The mid-season return to ABC’s Shondaland has unfortunately been pushed back due to an presidential inauguration special by 20/20. This means that fans of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder will have to wait one week longer to return to these shows. Find out all the details below.
Scandal Season 6 Premiere Photos: Election Night for Mellie>>>
All three dramas will return to ABC on January 26 instead of their original return date of January 19. The push-back in premiere dates is due to ABC News’ broadcast on January 19 of a pre-inauguration 20/20 special. The hour-long special, titled America’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington, will air at 10/9c on January 19, with repeat episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal airing prior to it in their allotted times.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reason that all three episodes are being pushed back as opposed to just HTGAWM is to ensure that the three Shonda Rhimes-produced series can return on the same day. It apparently has nothing to do with the contents of the Scandal season 6 premiere, which features a former first lady as a female presidential candidate, mirroring real-life events. The series is expected to return with the results of the election held in the last season.
