Spooky season is in full swing, and MeTV is celebrating with its eagerly anticipated second annual “Svengoolie’s Halloween BOOnanza,” a month-long extravaganza starring America’s favorite horror host Svengoolie and delivering spine-tingling fun and quirky classic entertainment for the entire family.
This Halloween-themed spectacular boasts the much anticipated “Svengoolie’s Halloween BOOnanza Double Feature,” with back-to-back classic and campy horror movies every Saturday night.
Devoted fans will have already noticed the addition of new friends and fiends appearing in the dungeon – as MeTV is thrilled to introduce the new Sven Squad cast members Gwengoolie, IMP (Ignatius Malvolio Prankenstein) and Nostalgiaferatoo.
The casting, which initially kicked off during New York Comic Con in October 2022, expanded nationwide and took a full year of screening and auditioning and now culminates with the unveiling of the new Sven Squad:
Sarah Palmer plays gorgeous ghoul Gwengoolie, an enchanting Hollywood, or Hollyweird, diva from the glamor age of cinema. Dead and loving it, she crossed over about 65 years ago and now happily puts the “decay” in decades. She recently arrived at Svengoolie’s dungeon and is ready for her close up!
Sarah is a proud California native whose unwavering love for all things vintage, tiki, and Halloween shines through in everything she does. With a career spanning 18 years, Sarah has made her mark in the world of entertainment. She’s known for her remarkable ability to embody iconic figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, and the Bride of Frankenstein, delighting audiences with her versatile performances.
Scott Gryder joins the team as IMP (Ignatius Malvolio Prankenstein), the devilishly ingratiating, and slightly grating, sly trickster who keeps claiming Svengoolie is his uncle. Gryder most recently appeared in the Jeff-Award Winning Buyer & Cellar (Pride Films & Plays) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Lyric Opera Chicago).
Scott studied theater at Texas Tech University and continues to perform across Chicagoland at such intimate venues as Davenport’s Piano Bar and Skokie Theatre. Scott has three National Daytime Emmy Awards for his work on the national children’s television show Green Screen Adventures and one Non-Equity Jeff Award for Buyer & Cellar.
Plus, me tv fans will recognize Bill leff, who joins the svengoolie cast of characters as Nostalgiaferatoo, an 800 year-old vampire, but to be honest, he doesn’t look a day over 760. He chalks it all up to counting carbs, and clean livin’. Leff is a pop-culture and classic tv fanatic who studied improvisation at chicago’s second city theater, performed stand-up comedy nationwide in clubs and on national tv, and is a popular Chicago radio personality.
Bill is host of MeTV’s weekday morning show, Toon In With Me, which features live-action comedy segments wrapped around classic animated shorts featuring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, Road Runner, along with cartoon shorts featuring Tom & Jerry, Popeye and Woody Woodpecker.
About Svengoolie:
For almost 45 years, Svengoolie has entertained horror fans with his signature brand of satire and slapstick gags, poking fun at the classic horror films that defined the genre and the low-budget cult flicks nearly forgotten. After airing on local TV in Chicago, Svengoolie debuted on MeTV – America’s #1 classic television network – in 2011, introducing Sven and his ghouly gang to a new generation of viewers and fans nationwide.
Brought to life by Chicago media veteran Rich Koz from 1979, Svengoolie – along with his smart-mouthed sidekick, rubber chicken Kerwyn – has catapulted from Chicago cult celebrity to national icon, drawing audiences of thousands at fan events across the country. Throughout his distinguished career, Koz has earned eight regional Emmy Awards and was inducted into the Chicago Television Academy’s prestigious “Silver Circle” in 2004 for his outstanding contribution to Chicago television. Koz has also earned eleven Rondo Awards, which honor the best in the horror/sci-fi genre, for Favorite Horror Host.
In 2014, the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago unveiled a Svengoolie exhibit featuring his original coffin and other exclusive artifacts from the show’s set. In 2016, Svengoolie teamed up with Rock & Roll legend Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon for the hit single, “The Svengoolie Stomp” available on iTunes! Koz’s extensive career is chronicled in the popular book Chicago TV Horror Movie Shows- from Shock Theatre to Svengoolie written by Ted Okuda and Mark Yurkiw, and available from Lake Claremont Press.
In 2019, to celebrate his 40th anniversary, Svengoolie made his comic book debut in the limited comic insert series “Svengoolie Meets the DC Universe”, starring alongside DC Comics super-heroes Superman, Wonder Woman, as well as Gotham nemesis The Joker.
In the summer of 2023, Svengoolie debuted the all-new original full length comic, Svengoolie Lost In Time, that quickly sold out the entire run in specialty comic book stores nationwide.
